ROLAND BOOTH Roland Booth, 81, of Sarnia, Ont., passed away Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004 at the Bluewater Health Mitton Street Site in Sarnia. A wonderful husband, father, and grandfather has left us. Roland Booth, born Feb. 22, 1923 in Broughton, England, was one of the kindest, gentlest, generous, most compassionate souls on earth. He had quick intellect and a delightful sense of humour. He would help anyone, anywhere, anytime, and never expected anything in return. He treated everyone as a friend. One of his proudest accomplishments was being a decorated member of the 48th Highlanders in World War II, where he met and married Johanna (Van Duyn) Booth in Holland in 1945. Roland lived in the Emo-Fort Frances area working at the Fort Frances Jail (1959-1971), prior to his transfer to Sudbury, where he retired and then made their family home in Sarnia. Roland had a strength of character, loyalty, courage, and devotion which is becoming increasingly rare. He was a strong but gentle man. Right up to his last day, he was more concerned about his family than himself. Roland is survived by his wife, Johanna Booth; son, Tom Booth and wife, Evelyn; grandson, Steven Booth and wife, Kyla; great-granddaughter, Tianna Booth and great-grandson, Aidan Booth; step-granddaughter, Carol Sue Jahn and husband, Ted; step-great-grandsons, Patrick, Justin, and David Jahn; and step-grandson, Tim Jahn. Also surviving are his brothers, Bert Booth of Atikokan, Ont. and Martin Booth of Emo, Ont.; sister, Ethel Khober of Fort Frances, Ont.; sister-in-law, Jean Booth of Fort Frances, Ont.; and many loved nieces and nephews. Roland was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Emma Booth; brothers, Ted, Jim, Jack, Ron, and Walter Booth; and nieces Joan, Claire, and Karen. Roland was well-loved and will be sadly missed by his family. The funeral service was held Jan. 5, 2005 at Smith Funeral Home in Sarnia, with Capt. Dale Steward of the Salvation Army officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
