An imminent neurologist passed away on Friday, July 24, 1998, suddenly but peacefully, at North York General Hospital, after devoting fifty-six years to medical practice. Born in Brampton, Ontario, July 8, 1917, he grew up in Montreal. He excelled scholastically and graduated Gold Medalist from McGill Medicine in 1941. He served overseas as medical officer in the War. As a neurologist, his expertise was in seizure disorder and the use of EEG as a diagnostic tool. After moving to Toronto in 1970, he continued his medical activities with clinical teaching at the University of Toronto, and practiced at Etobicoke General Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital and Wellesley Hospital, spending the majority of his time at North York Branson Hospital. He retired from practice in 1997. He married the late Hazel Marion (Peggy) Pitman in England on January 1, 1945. He is lovingly remembered by his children Carolyn Lloyd-Smith of Qualicum Beach, British Columbia; Louise Lloyd-Smith of Markham, Ontario; Dr. Robert Lloyd-Smith (Elizabeth MacKenzie) of Vancouver; Dr. Geoffrey Lloyd-Smith (Rosemary) of Lake City, Florida; and Claire Lloyd-Smith (Phillip Marsland) of Aurora, Ontario. He is lovingly respected by his thirteen grandchildren Claire and Alana of Qualicum Beach; Paul, Steven, Robert of Markham; Elisa, Alexandra, Patrick and Georgia of Vancouver; Stuart and Andrew of Lake City, and Evan and Alexander of Aurora.
