HEIKKILA, Olavi L. In loving memory of Olavi L. Heikkila, 85 years of Sudbury, who passed away Friday evening, January 9th, 2004 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph's Health Centre. He was born in Wakefield, Michigan. Olavi was a veteran of the Finnish Winter War and of World War II. For his outstanding leadership, bravery and commitment to the cause of freedom, he was honoured with a number of medals including the Iron Cross. He was an active member of St. Matthew's Church, Knights of Kaleva, the Finnish War Veterans of Sudbury and a founding member of the Sudbury Finnish Home. Beloved husband of 62 years of Helena (Hakola) Heikkila of Sudbury. Loving father of Heikki (predeceased), Jorma (wife Barb) of Sudbury, Kay Virtanan of Manitowaning, Sinikka Heikkila of Ottawa, Jack (wife Denise) of Sudbury and Sirkka Hart (husband Brodie) of Walkerton. Cherished grandfather of 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Dear brother of Viola Koski of Thunder Bay and Vivian Pakkala (husband Leonard) of Elliot Lake. Predeceased by his parents Senja and Ernie Heikkila and his brother Ernie. Will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service in the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME, 252 Regent St., Sudbury, Tuesday, January 13th, 2004 at 11:30 am. Interment at the Civic Memorial Cemetery. Donations to the Diabetes Association, St. Matthew's Church Memorial Fund or the Ladies and Knights of Kaleva Memorial Fund would be appreciated.
