KOSARCHYN, Iwanna (nee Mandryk) In loving memory of Iwanna (nee Mandryk) Kosarchyn, 81 years, who passed away Sunday, May 9, 2004 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital- Laurentian Site. Devoted wife to the late Sam Kosarchyn. Iwanna married Sam Kosarchyn in 1950 and remained a loving wife for 41 years until his death in 1991. Iwanna leaves behind her son and best friend, Steve, and her much-loved sister and confidant, Irene. A special place in her heart was always for her nieces, Maria and Tanya whom she praised greatly with their accomplishments and successes. Iwanna saw a part of life through their eyes that she was unable to perform herself...a great admiration for two deserved loved ones. Iwanna was always saddened with the miles apart with her family in Australia, but she always kept in touch as much as possible. Iwanna had a great love for the Arts and painting became very important to her. However, the 'piano' was her cherished friend and remained so until her death. As a young adult she studied and took her exams at the Conservatory in Lviv. The sciences also intrigued her greatly. Anything that was new captured her interest, especially the excitement of travel. Seeing new things, places and people intrigued her inquisitive mind and spirit. She also studied dentistry at Bond University in Germany until the war changed everything and in 1949 she immigrated to Canada. She loved embroidery, her piano (of course) and spoke many languages. She was heavily involved in community work, the church (St. Mary's Ukrainian Church) and she was always there to teach and care for others. In her early days in Sudbury, she was involved in the Ukrainian National Federation devoting many hours to the things she so believed in. She also worked at the old St. Joseph's Hospital for 10 years as a nurse's aid. Beloved wife of Sam Kosarchyn predeceased 1991. Loving mother of Steve (friend Cathy Dow) of Sudbury. Cherished daughter of Ivan and Maria (Kuszlyk) Mandryk predeceased. Loving sister of Irene Wacyk of Toronto and Jaroslaw Mandryk predeceased (wife Linda of Australia). Special aunt to Maria (husband Frank Poland) and Tanya (husband Greg Spencer) both of Toronto, and Linda, Irena, John and Peter all of Australia. Resting at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury. Funeral Mass in St Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 40 Notre Dame Ave., Sudbury, Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at 10:30 am. Cremation at the Parklawn Crematorium. Panakhyda 7:30 pm Monday. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Kidney Foundation would be appreciated.
