BERNARD JOSEPH ARMSTRONG Bernard Joseph Armstrong of Atikokan, Ont. passed away May 26, 1999 at Atikokan General Hospital. He was born Sept. 20, 1920 in Stratton, Ont. Bernard served in WWII from 1940 to 1945, and it was then he met and married Mary (Molly) Stewart on Nov. 10, 1941 in Inverness, Scotland. After the war, he returned to Canada and worked for Ontario-Minnesota Pulp and Paper Company (Mando) near Atikokan, commuting to his home in Fort Frances, Ont. In 1952, Molly and the children joined him in Atikokan, and he worked for Mando until he retired in 1985. He enjoyed his quiet home life, especially watching boxing and wresting on television, and was very proud of his grandchildren. Bernard is survived by his wife, Mary Helen Armstrong of Atikokan; children, Dorothy (Mack) Usipuik, Richard (Joanne) Armstrong, and Michael (Nancy) Armstrong, all of Prince George, B.C., Tommy (Elaine) Armstrong of Edsen, Alta., Ann (Tom) Bruyere of Fort Frances, Ont., Donna (Norman) Jewett of Saskatoon, Sask., Alvia Armstrong of Vancouver, B.C., Bobby (Ursula) Armstrong of Hinton, Alta., Vincent Armstrong of Atikokan, and Francis (Edith) Armstrong of Kingston, Ont. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Philip (Evelyn) Armstrong, Alvin (Grace) Armstrong, Margaret Poitros, Helen Lindholm, Maureen (Bill) Fontayne, and Francis Armstrong; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Codge Hensrud. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Adeline Armstrong; and brothers, Vincent Armstrong and Girard Armstrong. Memorial services were held Monday, May 31, 1999 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with Fr. Ed Merchant S.J. officiating. Interment was in Little Falls Cemetery.
