Joseph William MATHIAS

MATHIAS Joseph-William Chief, born November 12, 1943, passed away peacefully in Vancouver on March 10, 2000. Survived by his loving wife Lisa Ethans, beloved daughter Stefany, mother Elizabeth Guilbault (nee Jacobs), stepmother Phillis August Mathias-Joe, many caring brothers, sisters and extended family from the Squamish and Tsawwassen First Nations. As an Hereditary Chief of the Squamish Nation, Joe dedicated his life to the betterment of his community and Aboriginal people throughout Canada. He personified grace, dignity and humility. He taught us that a life worth living is based on respecting the humanity in all people. A brilliant light has passed The family requests that donations be made to the Chief Joe Mathias BC Aboriginal Scholarship Fund, care of Lisa Ethans (Ste. 2000 - Bentall Four, 1055 Dunsmuir Street, Vancouver, BC V7X 1P4) in lieu of flowers. Prayers will be held at Squamish Nation Recreation Centre, 100 Capilano Road, North Vancouver on Tuesday, March 14 at 7:30 PM.
