LADEROUTE, Joseph E. "Sam" In loving memory of Joseph E. "Sam" Laderoute, 81 years, of Copper Cliff, who passed away Monday evening, April 10th, 2000 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph's Health Centre with his dear Janet at his side. He was born in Westmeath and married Janet (MacInnis) in Sudbury in 1967. Sam was a well known and loved Copper Cliff Resident who generously shared his gift of music with his community and country. He had been the public relations office at INCO retiring with 41 years service. Laderoute has played before royalty on several occasions; for King George 1939; at Braemar Castle in Scotland for Queen Elizabeth in 1978, and again at Science North in 1984; and for the Prince of Wales in Sudbury in 1991. Pipe Major Laderoute has led the Copper Cliff Highlander's Pipe Band to three National Championships and fourteen Provincial Championships since 1964. The outstanding contribution put forth on behalf of Branch #224 by Comrade Laderoute has left an indelible impression on the many young citizens of our community who were once members of the famous band, having taught over 1500 people how to play the pipes, drums and Highland dancing over the past 47 yrs. In 1987 Pipe Major Comrade Sam Laderoute was presented the Order of St. John by the Governor General of Canada. Legion recognition includes the Citizenship Award and the Certificate of Merit. Beloved husband of Janet (MacInnis) Laderoute of Copper Cliff. Loving father of Frances (husband Frank Antonini) of Sudbury and missed by grandchildren. Dear son of Fred and Minna (Drapeau) Laderoute predeceased. Dear brother of Frank (wife Rose) of Westmeath and Dora Smallwood of New Jersey, and the late Dorian, Ken, Florence Mitchel, Zan Ford, Morissina Desilets, Agnes Johansson and Jane all predeceased. Cherished son-in-law of Ninian and Kay MacInnis of Garson. Special brother-in-law of Alex and Pauline MacInnis of Sudbury. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and their families. Resting at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury. Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Garson, Ontario, Friday, April 14th, 2000 at 10 a.m. Cremation at the Parklawn Crematorium. A memorial service will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday under the auspices of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #224, Copper Cliff. Donations to the Sam Laderoute Musical Bursary Fund would be appreciated.
