COURCHENE, Joseph Francis Peacefully on Monday, May 22, 2000, Joseph F. Courchene, age 61. Beloved husband of Therese Julien. Dear father of Mathieu (Karen Hunter) and Sophie, grandfather of Sarah, Daylon and Austin. Also survived by his brothers and sisters, Victor (Jeannette), Peter (Isabel), Annette (Nick Siegel), Evelyn Webster, Alma (Neil Guimond), Joyce, Dianne (Clifford Lavoie), Francine (Jack Enns), adopted brothers Rienie (Claudette) and Dinelle (Robin), brother-in-law Wilfred Fontaine, sisters-in-law Eva Courchene, Jean Courchene, Andree (Jean-Guy Gauthier), Mariette Houde (Denis Drolet), Francoise (Fernand Houde), Louise (Jean-Claude St-Pierre), as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Predeceased by his parents Harry and Mabel Courchene, brothers Harold, Romeo, Timothy and sisters Norma, Hillary and Elise. Even though he did not make his home in Sagkeeng, his heart remained there. He always made an effort to visit all those with whom he grew up. A career Civil Servant for 34 years he was especially proud that none were spent with the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs. A world traveller, Joe Frank was well respected and sought out, both on the rink and on the golf course, for his insight and wisdom. He made sure that his children knew their culture and were proud of it. He was dedicated to his family and adored his grandchildren. He will be missed. Memorial services will be held at St-Mark the Evangelist, 160 Main Street, Aylmer, Quebec on Friday, May 26 at 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held in Sagkeeng First Nation on Monday, May 29.
