Laurent Duguay Lifelong Hearst resident Laurent Patrick Duguay, 86, of the Foyer des Pionniers Nursing Home died Dec. 11 at the Foyer of natural causes. Born March 12, 1915 in Sault Ste. Marie, he came to Hearst at age three months. A carpenter, he built his Riverside Apartments in 1958, and later helped build many of the west-end Ontario Housing subdivision homes and the new Notre-Dame Hospital. Described as a devoted family man, fun-loving, and hardworking, he enjoyed his log cottage and pontoon boat at Lake Pivabiska, hunting, fishing, tinkering, nature and the outdoors. The Foyer's first-ever resident to obtain a moose tag, he went on a three-day hunt during the autumn 2000 season with family in the Longlac area using his motorized chair. He was predeceased by a son Gérald Duguay in 1973, brothers Francis, Bill Duguay and Harvey, a sister Donalda Larose and parents Adélaide and Charles Duguay. He leaves his wife Lucienne (née Chartrand) Duguay of Hearst, sons Bob (Géraldine) of Hearst, and Marc (Lise) of Kapuskasing, and daughters Loraine (Yvon Dorval) Duguay of London, and Sue (André) Damboise and Carole (André Meloche) Duguay, all of Hearst. Also surviving are his sisters Murielle (Ben) Léger and René (Candide) Duguay, all of Hearst, as well as 14 grandchildren and six great grandsons. Cremation was done at Hillcrest Crematorium in Matheson. Rev. Sébastien Groleau officiated the Dec. 14 service at the Église St-Pie-X Church.
