Bernard Joseph Armand Martel , of Hearst Death: July 23rd, 2001 Longtime Hearst resident Bernard Joseph Armand Martel of 20 Fontaine Drive died July 23, 2001 at Notre-Dame Hospital following a heart failure. He was 80. Born Aug. 20, 1920 in Embrun, Ontario, he came to the area in the early 1940s. After working as an office clerk for some 20 years at Henri Selin, 15 for Fontaine Lumber and 15 for Levesque Plywood, he retired in 1985. He enjoyed reading, working outside, camping and hunting. He leaves his wife Yvette (née Soucy), daughters Carole (Raymond) Paquin of Timmins, Lorraine (Robert) Verreault of Hearst, Mona (Wayne) Scott of Brockville, Nicole (Sig) Weidner of Vancouver, and Nathalie Martel of Hearst, and sons Pierre of Hearst and Richard Martel of Valleyfield, Quebec. Also surviving are sisters and brothers in Embrun, Ottawa and Timmins, as well as six grandsons, three granddaughters, and three great grandsons. Cremation was done at Hillcrest Crematorium in Matheson. A private family service was held July 27 at the Salon Lafrance Funeral Home. Published on August 25th, 2001
