William Earl SHERMAN

William Earl Sherman was born on May 8, 1914 in Neepewa, Manitoba. He was the oldest son of Thomas Niles and Sarah Sherman. He was raised on a farm for most of his growing up years in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. When dad was in his 20Õs the World War II started and dad and his brothers enlisted. Dad served overseas in Sicily and Italy. While dad was overseas in Scotland he met his wife Helen Elizabeth Morrison. They were married in 1945 in Scotland. They had a son named John who died in infancy. Dad came back to Canada to settle down in the Gilbert Plains area. He became a conductor for CN Railway, He was employed with them for 18 years. After this he became a long distance trucker for Swan River The Pas Transfer. At this time they also moved to Kamsack where dad was active in the Legion. He was a trucker until his retirement. After retirement he and mom moved to Winnipeg. Mom died in 1982 and in 1983 dad met and married Winnifred Wareing. Dad and Winnie enjoyed about 10 years together, camping, shopping and travelling. They moved to Carbon, Alberta, where they lived until Winnie passed away. Dad moved into Sunshine Lodge in Drumheller, Alberta and stayed there until he moved to Edmonton to be closer to his son Earl and family. Dad started attending the Mennonite Church in Kamsack in his 60's. And he asked Jesus into his heart at this time. He could often be seen memorizing and reciting scriptures. While dad and Winnie lived in Carbon they attended Mount Olive Evangelical Free Church in Three Hills. Dad also loved and recited poetry and to the end of his life he would recite many different poems and scriptures. Dad loved all kinds of music and had lots of fun knitting afghans and mittens for his family. Dad was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Tom, Les, Bob; and sisters, Marion, Margaret; and infant son John. He leaves behind sons Allan (Lorraine), Earl (Patsi); daughter Lynn (John); and sister Mary. He also leaves seven grandchildren and spouses, two great grandchildren. He is also survived by Winnie's children. Funeral Services were held on Friday, December 28, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. in Three Hills at Mount Olive Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Tony Hanson officiating. Interment followed at the Three Hills Cemetery. Arrangements were in care of Courtney-Winter's Funeral Chapel. (403) 823-2666
