Our best friend, our hero, was our mom. This time weighs heavy on our hearts, but the impulse to mourn her is our signal to celebrate her. Mariette lived her life with pride, laughter and with the strength to do everyday what she needed to do. She was a dynamo as a young business woman wheeling and dealing purchase prices for Hudson's Bay Company. She loved to dance, and sing, and indeed graced Notre Dame de la Defense's patrons many a times with her solo opera performance of the Ave Maria. She played the accordion, and was a master at the piano, charming audiences, playing by ear the most elaborate of tunes. Still her life truly began in 1954 when she married Emilio D'Ermo, following a four-year stint of romantic letter writing to and from Italy and Canada. From that fairy tale union were born her daughters Doria, Dina and Delia. Together Mariette and Emilio launched Acadia Quilting, a business that Mariette continued to operate even after Emilio's untimely and heartfelt death in 1976. Mariette devoted her life to us, her daughters. She listened to us, cried with us, laughed with us. She gave unselfishly and without thought to her own well-being, always. Her devotion to us was tireless. She loved to travel, and together we trekked through Italy, Panama, California, Barbados, Bahamas, Mexico, England, Florida anywhere and everywhere we could think of exploring. She cherished her family, her sons-in-law Ugo and Walter, grandchildren, Fabiano, Tristano and Christina, and touched the lives, beyond scope, of all who knew her and let her into their lives - Rosie, Rena, Denise, Ida, Jesus, Alex, Anna Maria, Valerio, John, Anna, Maria, and uncountable others. She was a devout Catholic and donated money and committed endless time to her church Notre Dame de la Defense. Tomorrow with her will no more be ours. We will miss her dearly. But we will carry her in our hearts and minds forever, and will always continue marching to the parade that was her life. Viewing at: On Wednesday, October 25 from 7 to 10 p.m., Thursday, October 26 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 27 at 11 a.m. at Notre Dame de la Defense Church (688 Henri-Julien, Montreal), thence to Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery.
