Peacefully at home in Guelph, Ontario on Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at the age of 82. Bernie was born in Ottawa, August 23, 1918. His beloved wife Mary Agnes (nee McMullen) predeceased him. He is survived by his six children: Brian (Nancy), Eric (Geraldine), Mary Louise Hodgson (Michael), John (Gail), Frances Semple (Michael) and Kathryn Sorenson (Eric), thirteen grandchildren: Richard Cosgove, Sherry Lachine (Brian), Devon Leigh McConkey (Norman), Christopher, Sarah and Joseph Cosgrove, Stephanie and Keith Hodgson, Sarah Ann and Kathryn Cosgrove, Shannon and Kyle Sorenson, James Bernard Semple and three great-grandchildren: Adam Lachine and Jack and Matthew McConkey. He is also survived by his brother Edward of Smiths Falls. Bernie served in the Royal Canadian Navy as Petty Officer First Class during WWII on Corvettes out of Halifax. He was a noted innovator and leader in many successful business developments in transportation, moving and warehousing and made lasting contributions to Canadian International Fiberboard, MJ Campbell and Global Distribution and Warehousing of Mississauga. He will be remembered for his vibrant wit and a contagious zest for living. May God grant him eternal rest. Friends may call at McEvoy Shields Funeral Home, 235 Kent Street, Ottawa on Thursday. Funeral Mass Friday at 10 a.m. in Saint Patrick's Basilica, followed by cremation. Interment Notre Dame Cemetery, Ottawa. Ottawa Citizen, January 24, 2001
