(nee Laurie). Peacefully in Ottawa on Friday, February 9, 2001 at the age of ninety-four. Predeceased by her husband Dr. P.N. MacDermot, her son Pembrooke MacDermot, her sister Dorothy Gill and her brother William Laurie. Bess is survived by her son Peter Burns, daughter Patricia Wood, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A gifted flower designer and innovator, poet, writer, avid reader, competitive bridge player, gracious hostess and a generous friend to anyone in need. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church, 125 MacKay Street, Ottawa, on Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at 2 p.m. The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to relatives, extended family and friends for their unfailing support and comfort. Sincere thanks to the staff of Island Lodge for their compassion and excellent care. Donations to the Island Lodge, 1 Porters Island, Ottawa, would be appreciated.
