Born May 19, 1918, died at home in Creg Quay, Bainsville on Thursday, March 1, 2001. Beloved husband of Myrna. Dear father of Leslie Alison Hennessy of Colorado and dear grandfather of Christopher Hennessy and Alison Hennessy. Dear brother of Gordon (Madelaine) of Marmora, Ontario. Predeceased by his first wife Helen Hartley, married in 1939. Also predeceased by brother, Lorne. Also survived by step-children, Bryan Herbert, Lynn Herbert, Jaye Herbert-Davis (Joseph) and step-grandchildren Harmoni Herbert, Ryan Davis and Shanti Davis. Son of the late Duncan Gow and the late Carrie Palmer. He joined the Canadian Army in Ottawa in 1939. He was captured in Dieppe, France by the German Army in August 1942 and was released from German prison camp in June 1945. After the War, he settled in Dorval, Quebec and worked for Gardner Trailers in Montreal. Eventually, he purchased the company and formed Trailbec with longtime partner Paul Maher. George was a member of Summerlea Golf Club for 40 years and leaves many good friends and golfing buddies to carry on the good fight. Relatives and friends may call at Munro & Morris Funeral Home, 46 Oak Street, Lancaster, Ontario from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2001 and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of the Funeral Home on Monday, March 5, 2001 at 11 a.m., Rev. Gary Stokes officiating. Interment will follow in Capital Memorial Gardens, Ottawa, Ontario. memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Ottawa Citizen, March 3, 2001.
