P.Eng. Aged 82, died peacefully March 19, 2001 at home in Ottawa with his wife Jane beside him. He had been speedily weakened by a diseased heart, but suffered little pain. Predeceased by his first wife Ruth (nee Richmond), and survived by his children Steven, Marthalee, Gregory and Peter, his grandchildren Maesha, Jamil and Taylor all of Toronto; his brother Peter, sister Judy Harvie, cousin Margot Harding, all of Kingston. Graduate of U of T in Civil Engineering class of '43, he served in the Navy as Lieutenant of HMCS Dockyard in Halifax during W.W.II. He had an outstanding career as project manager, working on major buildings for Piggot Construction, Dominion Bridge, Hudson Bay Co., Minto Developments, and latterly PCL Constructors. He had a well deserved reputation for resolving problems and getting projects built to schedule. Many younger colleagues valued his coaching. Most recently he worked on steel installations at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, and the Corel Centre in Ottawa. His last consulting contract was in Montreal in January of this year. An exemplary father, considerate friend and accomplished professional, he will be greatly missed. The best action his friends can take in his memory is to live life to the fullest. This would be his wish. Private family funeral arrangements were made with the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry in Ottawa with Cremation following at Beechwood Cemetery on the first day of Spring.
