C.M. C.P.O. A.C., F.C.B.C. On Holy Saturday, April 14, 2001, Armand Viau, 81. Beloved husband of Annette Meilleur. Loving father of Pierre (Nancy Knapp) and Micheline (Chris Benn). Cherished grandfather of Joel and Genevieve Hupe. After graduating from the University of Ottawa with a diploma in Anatomy, Kinesiology and Physiology, Mr. Viau attended Northwestern University Medical School (Graduate Division, Prosthetic Education), Chicago, IL, where he acquired certification in Fluid Prosthetics for Prosthetists; Fitting and Fabrication of Special Prostheses for Prosthetists; Below-Knee Prosthetics for Prosthetists; and Immediate Post-Surgical Fitting Procedures for Prosthetists. He also attended l'Ecole de Prothese et Orthese du Quebec Inc., completing a course in Orthese membre inferieur. Mr. Viau was accredited in the Principles of BK Fit and Alignment Fluid-Controlled Knees and BK Thermoplastic Structural Alignment Systems Certification at the Amputee Management Symposium, Rancho Los Amigos Hospital, University of Southern California. He held several certificates, amongst them, the Suction Socket Limb, of the National Suction Socket Training Program, US Veterans Administration. Certified Orthotist and Prosthetist, American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics Inc., and Canadian Board for Certification of Prosthetists and Orthotists, Mr. Viau was also certified in Advanced Fitting Techniques for Control Systems Certification, Lower Extremity Modular Prosthetis Certification; British Modular Prostheses Certification; Above-Knee Prosthetics, Myoelectric Control Certification; Advanced Myoelectric Control Certification; Advances in Endoskeletal Prosthetics and Orthotics Componentry Certification; and Advances in Upper and Lower Extremity Prosthetics Certification. Mr. Viau is also credited in designing the Stump Contraction Prevention; the Pneumatic Hand Splint - Hemiplegics Hand Contracture Prevention; the Mobile Fulcrum Writing/ Computer Keyboard Aid for Upper Extremity Amputees; and of Prehension Prosthesis for Partial Hand Amputee, Thumb Remaining. Mr. Viau was a Fellow of the Interprovincial Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists of Canada; Member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists; Founding Member of the Canadian Board for Certification of Prosthetists and Orthotists; Honorary Member of the War Amputations of Canada; Member of the International Society for Prosthetics and Canadian Prescription Footwear; and awarded the Dedicated Service Award by Otto Bock Orthopedic Industries. Mr. Viau was President and owner of Regional Services of Orthotics and Prosthetics Viau Ltd. In 1996, Mr. Viau received the Order of Canada for exemplary dedication and great concern for the betterment of those in need of his expertise. Friends may pay their respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 585 Somerset St. West (centretown), Sunday, April 22, 2001, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Monday, April 23, 2001, at l'eglise St-Jean Baptiste, 96 Empress St., for Mass of Christian Funeral at 10:00 a.m. Donations to the War Amputations of Canada would be appreciated.
