Ph.D WWII Veteran (North Shore NB Regiment) Passed away on Easter Sunday, April 15, 2001, after a lengthy illness at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones, at the age of 85. Born in Chatham, NB (now Miramichi East) in 1916. He was a graduate of the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, NB in 1937 and the University of Western Ontario, London, ON in 1939. He joined the North Shore NB Regiment shortly after the outbreak of WWII and was with the Canadian Army when it landed in France on D-day. He continued his education after WWII when he attended Rutgers University in New Jersey where he received a Ph.D degree in 1958. He was predeceased by his first beloved wife Bertha Wilma, mother of Audrey Ann (Pete Conroy), St. John's, NF, and Robert Algie, Stittsville, ON. He is survived by his second beloved wife Anita Eleanor and her daughter Kate (Kevin Holmes). Also survived by grandchildren Emily Conroy of St John's, NF, Rhys Logie of Ottawa, Mitchel Azmier of Fort McMurray, AB, Jason Azmier of Calgary, AB and Rhonda of Kanata. After WWII, he had a career as a Federal Public Servant, first with the Fisheries Research Board in Ellerslie, PE from 1946 to 1958; with the Department of Fisheries Halifax, NS; with the Department of Fisheries Ottawa, ON as Assistant Deputy Minister; then with the Department of Environment from which he retired in 1975. A celebration of Reed's life will be held at Bromley Road Baptist Church, 1900 Lauder Drive, Ottawa, on Sunday, April 22, 2001 at 3:00 P.M. Cremation.
