On Friday, May 11, 2001, with great dignity and courage. Devoted husband of the late Pat Crichton. Loving and beloved father of Peter, Kelly, John, Jo, Martha and the recently deceased Christopher. Great father-in-law and friend to Margaret, Mel, Lynda, Maxence and Barry. A dream of a grandfather to 16 adoring grandchildren. Affectionate brother to sister Chris, brother Don and his late sister Jane. Hal had a life as eclectic and active as his mind and body. In youth he was a champion amateur boxer and swimmer, pioneer on the Gatineau ski slopes and a flight instructor in the RCAF during WWII. His enduring and genuine charm made him a champion salesman and contractor for much of his life. Until he was 84, he drove in daily to the Ottawa Court House from his beloved Constance Bay to work as a title searcher and "social convener" of the city's registry office. Hal was a passionate "doer" right to the end. He will be much missed and remembered. Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean (between Bayshore and Baseline Rd.) on Monday. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Interment Pinecrest Cemetery. Many thanks to the devoted and caring staff at Palisades and the compassionate professionalism of the medical team of the Ottawa General ICU. Ottawa Citizen, May 12, 2001
