Retired O.B.E. Teacher Peacefully at home, she left us to be with the Lord on Monday, May 21, 2001 after a long struggle with cancer, remaining cheerful and joyful to the end. Dearly loved wife of John Osborne (Jack) for 17 fun-filled years. Daughter of the late John Raymond Shepard and Mabelle Heeter of Valencia, Pennsylvania. Proud and loving mother of Carol Morrow (Rich) of Toronto and Kathleen Johnson (Stephen Cock) of Nepean. Loving step-mother of Peter Osborne (Rachel DeCuypere) of Pakenham and Mary Osborne (Andrew Bird) of Ottawa. Caring grandma of Melissa and Rob Morrow of Toronto, Christine and Michael Cock of Nepean and Nicholas and Zachary Bird of Ottawa. Dear sister of Polly Shimrak (George) of Brevard, North Carolina and Jack Shepard (Dorothy) of Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania. She will be sorely missed by Jennifer and Jim Douglas and family of Chelsea, Quebec, her teacher friends as well as her many friends at St. David & St. Martin Presbyterian Church. A graduate of Penn. State University and Lakeshore Teachers College, she loved her job as an elementary school teacher (special ed.) for the Ottawa School Board from 1966 to 1984 and her "crafts" work with many friends. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Wednesday, May 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service at St. David and St. Martin Presbyterian Church, 444 St. Laurent Boulevard at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 24. Special thanks to Dr. Lisa Cross and Dr. Louise Coulombe for their compassionate care, and to all the wonderful nurses who cared for Shirley at home throughout April and May, and deep appreciation of the warm support of friends and relatives. In place of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Christie Lake Community Centres, Shepherds of Good Hope or St. David & St. Martin Memorial Fund would be appreciated.
