Ph.D. Peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, June 6, 2001. Dr. Frank Zillinsky at the age of 83 years, beloved husband of Hilda Barker. Dear father of James of Ottawa, Gary (Valerie) of Almonte and Susan (Ken Kowey) of Long Beach, California. Loving grandpa "Frank" to Emily and Julia. Frank served with the R.C.A.F. 410 Squadron during World War II; met and married his beloved wife Hilda in 1944 at Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, England. They came back to Canada after the war to raise their family. Frank received his Ph.D. from Iowa State University in 1952, and honourary doctorates from the University of Saskatchewan, and the University of Regina, plus numerous awards from different countries and organizations for his work in agricultural research. After 17 years working for Agriculture Canada, Frank went to Mexico for 14 years to work for an International Research Organization, and was a world authority in the development of Triticale. Frank and Hilda moved back to Canada and "officially" retired in the early 1980's. Friends may call at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road at Albion Road, on Friday.
