Marjorie Cameron Camus (1923 - 2019) - At the CISSS des Laurentides Lachute, on May 24th, 2019 at tha age of 95, beloved wife of the late Leslie Camus. Predeceased by her daughter Ann, her seven brothers and five sisters. Loving mother of Guy, Karen, Denise, Joan, Dawn (Doug), Sue (Bob), Paul (Bonnie) and John (Louise). Cherished grandmother of Corey, Brittney and Fianna. She also leaves to mourn her sister-in-law, Mary (''Tootsie", Paul) and extended family, including Karl and Marion, Barbara, the family of Guy Goudreau, Lana and Kim, many nieces, nephews and numerous friends. In an era where most womens were stay-at-home wives, Marjorie was a frontrunner who would have three main careers in addition to her roles as wife and mother. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, in 1923, Marje graduated from Nova Scotia Normal School (Nova Scotia Teachers'College) and McGill University. She had a strong sense of purpose and a strong sense of community. She was employed as a teacher and social worker before leaving the full-time paid work force to raise nine children and be an avocate for diverse community causes. She welcomed many into her home, providing a meal, a place to stay, a hook in the basement for hockey gear, and much nurturing. She wrote a weekly column, ''Brownsburg Bruit,'' published in The Lachute Watchman, a weekly community newspaper. When all her children were in school, she resumed full-time work, this time as Editor in Chief of The Lachute Watchman. Marjorie was active in the Catholic Women's League, Brownsburg Minor Hockey League, the Red Cross, United Appeal, and local civics. She enjoyed cross country skiing into her 70s, curling into her 80s, and gym workouts into her early 90s. She quit driving at 93 but missed her freedom. She was an avid fan of crossword puzzles and board games, taking pleasure in beating us at Scrabble, Cribbage and card games. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy ! and Wheel of Fortune every night with Guy. She was a lifelong reader who loved to finish the day with a good book and a glass of wine. After retiring, Marje took up landscape painting, and her nuanced paintings, particularly of the family cottage on Lac Gagnon, became widely coveted. Les funérailles seront célébrées ce Mercredi 29 mai à 12:00 heures, en l'église Ste-Anastasie, 174, ave Bethany, Lachute.
