Françoise M'Sadoques

Francoise McAdams - Private services will be held for Francoise McAdams, 77, of Powers, Ore. Mrs. McAdams was born in her Abenaki Indian village on Feb. 3, 1925. She was the oldest of six sisters and one brother and learned the craft of basket making which supplemented their income. Her courtship with her husband, Oliver "Mac" McAdams, started by letters and they were wed shortly after. They bought their first home in Lompoc and raised their family of seven children. During her 18 years in the valley, she taught herself to read, speak and write English and Spanish, and finished her education. Francoise was a generous, loving mother and a most devout Catholic. She gave her energy to scouting, the PTA and any interests of her family and friends. Francoise and Mac retired to a farm in West Virginia than later in Powers, where Mac was born. In her last years she was held in high regard by many for her knowledge and memories of her Indian tribe/s crafts and way of life. She died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, in her home at Powers. Survivors include daughters, Patricia, of Virginia Beach, Va., Claudette and Gail, both of Powers, Ore.; sons, Stanley, of Seattle, Wash., Mark, of Lompoc, and Greg, of Los Angeles; and numerous grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away in January 1994.
