CSJ (Sister Mary Marjory Byrne) Sister Carmelita passed away peacefully into her eternal rest at the St. Joseph's Motherhouse on July 6, 2001. Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Pembroke on August 15, 1935. She was in the 66th year of her religious life. Left to mourn her loss are her sisters in the Congregation, her brother, Leo of Ottawa, her sister, Sister Modesta, F.M.M. of New York, her sister-in-law, Mary Connerly, and her nephew, Father Pat Byrne of London. She also has many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins, as well as many friends in the areas where she ministered as a teacher. She taught primary and special education in Pembroke, Mount St. Patrick, Douglas, Calabogie, Barry's Bay, Killaloe and Deep River. She will be fondly remembered for her faithful service in the teaching field by many students and parents. She retired to the motherhouse in 1979. Sister Carmelita was born in Corkery, Ontario, a daughter of the late Anselm Byrne and Catherine (Rowan) Byrne. She is predeceased by her sister Carmelita, and brothers, Daniel, Eric, Anselm, Urban, Zeno and Frank. Resting at St. Joseph's Motherhouse, Pembroke after 7 p.m. Friday, July 6th, 2001. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, July 7, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel, with her nephew, Father Pat as celebrant. Interment at St. Columba's Cemetery, Pembroke.
