nee Heimler Valerie passed away peacefully in her home in Nepean, Ontario, on September 18, 2001, just six days short of her 74th birthday. Valerie was surrounded by her family, her beloved husband of over 50 years, James Alexander (Alex), and daughters, Jane, Jill and Martha, son-in-law, Roger Knoll, all of Toronto, and sister, Cleo Heimler, of Kitchener. She will be dearly missed by the Carman and Heimler families, neighbours, past and present, colleagues and friends. Valerie was born in Toronto, a second daughter to the late Clayton and late Mary Weiler Heimler, and a step-daughter of the late Gladys Carter Heimler, of Guelph. She was a daughter-in-law to the late Austin Harold and late Elsie Mowat Carman, of Bloomfield, Ontario. She was raised in Guelph. Valerie graduated in 1949, with a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree, University of Toronto, and later became a Pharmacist Emeritus, for having practiced for over 50 years. Her love of food science, was a great influence to her three daughters, who each pursued careers in the Canadian food industry. She also was expert in sewing, needlepoint and English smocking. She and Alex travelled the world extensively, often as members of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW). Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd. (between Bayshore and Baseline Rd.) on Saturday, September 22, 2001, from 1:30 p.m. until service in the chapel at 4:00 p.m. Cremation. The service will be officiated by Dr. Adrian Auret, of Knox Presbyterian Church, Manotick. Private interment Capital Memorial Gardens. she would like you to give someone a great big hug. In memory of Valerie, donations to the Ottawa Chapter of the Victorian Order of Nurses Community Care Access (VON Ottawa-Carleton, Box 205, 1200 St. Laurent Boulevard, Ottawa, ON,) would be appreciated.
