Artist, Teacher, Philosopher On October 5, 2001, aged 66, at the Hospice at May Court among family. Daughter of Wayland Rudd, late of Moscow, actor, and Flora Elizabeth Hurst, late of Ottawa. Precious sister of Vicka Legacy; just as precious to Vicka's mother, Loreta, both of South Carolina. Predeceased by daughter Debbie (Sept. 1960). Cherished mother of Valerie and husband Bill Botshka of Pickering, and Mark and his dear partner Joan Streuber of Calgary. Beloved gradmother of Cole and Kelyn, and held dear by their mother Jan all of Vancouver. Dear family to Margo, Apedaile and Sarah Hubbard. Lana is also survived by nieces, nephews and a community of loving friends. She was a musician all her life; she loved books and fine wordsmithing; was founding Conductor of the Capital Chordettes women's barbershop chorus in Ottawa in the 1960's. A wonderful teacher to thousands of students in the Carleton Board 1968 to 1994. Feminist with no apology; held deeply a love of learning, love of thought, love of debate. And oh, how she loved rhythm and dancing! Memorial Service will be held at First Unitarian Congregation, 30 Cleary Avenue, Ottawa on Tuesday, October 23, at 1 p.m., followed by a reception. please donate to the Hospice at May Court and/or bring finger-food to the Memorial Reception.
