Peacefully at the Ottawa Hospital (General Campus) on Wednesday, October 10, 2001, at the age of 86. Daughter of the late John McLaren and the late Rose-Ann Lavery. Predeceased by her brothers Arthur Patrick, John Joseph, James, and sister Sarah. Survived by her nephews John Arthur (Halifax), Philip (Calgary), Kenneth (Vancouver) and niece Mary Ann (Calgary). Mary will be sadly missed by her grand-nieces, grand-nephews and many friends. A life-long love of music and education, Mary taught school before a career of over 35 years with the Department of National Defense. She graduated from Carleton University with her Bachelor of Arts in English at the age of 67. Long active in her community, Mary served as a group leader with Recovery International for over 30 years. A woman of faith, Mary's gentle presence at St. Joseph's Parish (Sandy HIll), and her contribution to the Hospitality Ministry evidenced her concern for the poor. Friends may pay their respects at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 235 Kent Street, Friday, October 12th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church (Cumberland and Wilbrod Streets) on Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment Notre Dame Cemetery. In memory of Mary, donations to St. Joseph's Parish Supper Table (Hospitality Ministry) gratefully appreciated. The Ottawa Citizen, October 12, 2001
