Passed away peacefully at home on October 19, 2001 with his family by his side. Born in Lac La Biche, AB on December 23, 1942. Survived by his loving wife Katy; lovingly remembered by his daughter Jennifer and son Nelson; his parents, Nick & Clara, Edmonton; his sister Pati, Oakville, his brothers Dennis (Jennifer), Ottawa, Ed (Audrey), Pitt Meadows, BC, and Bob (Jan), Edmonton, his nephew JD and niece Nikki, Pitt Meadows and many dear friends, relatives and colleagues. James began his working life with the Bank of Commerce in Alberta, before obtaining his BSc and MSc in Microbiology in 1977 at the University of Alberta. He also studied at McGill University and was a Professional Associate for the Microbiology Dept. until he moved to Victoria in 1990. James worked as a laboratory technician for the Biology Dept. of University College of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford from 1992 until his illness in December 2000. Special thanks to Dr. Paul Blood and the Vancouver Island Cancer Centre staff, Dr. Darcy Nielsen, Dr. Andrew Joaquin, the staff of RPI and Victoria Hospice, the Palliative Response Team, Home Care Nurses, Physiotherapists and Community Health Workers who all took wonderful care of James over the past 10 months. A Celebration of James' life will be held at the Interfaith Chapel at the University of Victoria at 2 p.m. on October 27, 2001 with a reception to follow at the University Club. Donations to the BC Cancer Foundation designated to the research floor at the Vancouver Island Cancer Centre or to the Victoria Hospice Society would be gratefully appreciated.
