Elma G. STEWART

Ten year resident of Laurier Manor, entered into rest, Saturday, December 1st, at Montfort Hospital. Elma was in her 77th year. Daughter of the late W.E. (Ted) Stewart and Peryl Steacy, Smiths Falls; sister of A.K. (Al) Stewart (deceased), sadly missed by brothers - Harry (Toronto), Ron (Bass Lake), sister-in-law Joan (England), nieces, nephews, and their families, and many loved friends and cousins in Ontario, Quebec, and the United States. "Rusty", as she was known to her many friends in Ottawa, was Dr. Graham's receptionist and nurse at his Gilmour Street home and office for forty-five years. From the age of twenty, Elma suffered through every phase of Multiple Sclerosis. Her quip, "I may have MS but it does not have me!". became her motto. She was admired and respected by all who knew her for her positive attitude and her courageous spirit. She was twice honoured with a Citizen of the Year award for her work with the handicapped. A long time member of St. John's Church (Elgin at Somerset), and later an Associate with the Order of St. John the Divine (Toronto), Elma gained her strength and support from her Church family. We will forever be grateful to the staff at Laurier Manor for their excellent care. Arrangements in care of the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry. By her request, there will be no visitation. Cremation will be followed by a memorial service at St. John's The Evangelist Anglican Church, Ottawa, Thursday, December 6th at 2:00 p.m. Interment; Maple Vale, Smiths Falls. Donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society would be most appreciated. Our lives are God's gift to us; What we do with them is our gift to God.
