(Librarian - Town of Finch) At Winchester on Thursday, December 13, 2001 in her 40th year. Beloved wife of Kenneth Stephens. Dear mother of Sarah Stephens. Daughter of Albert and the late Charlotte (Kene) Merrett. Sister of Tom. A born again Christian since the age of 17, Jan was in 4H for four years and won several awards in showing her calves. She was an avid cross stitcher, sewer and general craftsperson. Devoted mother; wife and best friend to Ken, they lived in Trenton, Ont., 1979-1987, Greenwood, N.B. 1987-1991 and in Winchester since 1991. She was an organic gardener for over 20 years. Jan enjoyed walks in the country and often went snowshoeing in the winter. A private graveside service was held at Maple Ridge Cemetery on Saturday, December 15, 2001. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a Memorial Service at Winchester United Church (with a time of refreshment and fellowship to follow) on Saturday, December 22, 2001 at 1 p.m. Donations made to Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre for Ovarian Cancer Research; the SD&G County Libraries for the purchase of books or the Winchester & District Memorial Hospital Women's Auxiliary would be most appreciated.
