FREDERICK WILLIAM DUNCAN In loving memory of Frederick William Duncan, 80, of Fort Frances, Ont., who passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. Frederick was born June 7, 1920 in Rainy River, Ont. to the late William and Mary Duncan. He spent the majority of his life in the Rainy River area. He was a veteran of WWII, enlisting in 1942 and serving overseas in the United Kingdom, central Mediterranean area, and Continental Europe with the Royal Canadian Corp. of Signals attached to the 1st Canadian Armoured Brigade. He was discharged in 1946 and received the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Stars, Canadian Volunteer Medals, and the Service Medal and Clasp. Fred returned home and began working for Ontario Hydro as a lineman and then with customer service. On Jan. 25, 1969, he was united in marriage to Alyse McGillivray. Fred was 48-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 and a member of the Masonic Granite Lodge #446. Fred and Alyse loved to spend time at the cabin on Black Island on Rainy Lake, and he always looked forward to his yearly duck hunt with his friends. He was predeceased by his parents; and his wife, Alyse, on April 12, 1999. Fred leaves behind his children, Lynda (Ross) Chessell of Kakabeka Falls, Ont., and Terry (Doreen) Duncan of Regina, Sask.; grandchildren, Terril (Richard Mason) Chessell of Winnipeg, Man., Sheri (Brent) Rowley of Regina, Sask., Tracey (Phillip) Mack of Picture Butte, Alta., Emmy Chessell of Winnipeg, Man., Calvin Duncan of Winnipeg, Man., and Anna Chessell of Kakabeka Falls, Ont.; and great-granddaughters, Amanda, D’Anna, and Melina Rowley of Regina, Sask. Also surviving are stepdaughters, Marion (Rodger) Snow of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Shirley (Terry) Brennen of North Delta, B.C.; step-grandchildren, Kelly (Greg) Stilletto of Etobicoke, Ont., Rob Snow of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Brian and Julie Brennen of North Delta, B.C.; and step-great-grandchildren, Tate and Katie Snow of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Alyssa Stilletto of Etobicoke, Ont. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 19, 2001 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Patrick Playfair officiated, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
