Beverly Gilbert Wheaton The death occurred peacefully at the Kings County Memorial Hospital, Montague, P.E.I. on Friday, August 23, 2002 of Beverly Gilbert Wheaton of Amherst, NS and Sackville, NB. He was born in Midgic on November 27, 1910, the only son of David and Mae (Fillmore) Wheaton. Educated in the Sackville schools and Mount Allison Academy and Commercial College, he first worked with Enamel and Heating in Sackville. In 1937, he joined the Amherst Postal Staff and was appointed supervisory Postmaster for Amherst and area in 1965, and a member of the senior management team for the Central Nova Scotia Postal District. Very active in sports, he participated in track and field, hockey and baseball, and is former Maritime Junior Speed Skating Champion. He was inducted into the Amherst Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. He was Past Master of Alexandra Lodge No. 87 AF an AM and was treasurer of the lodge for many years. He was a former President of the Amherst Golf Club and Amherst United Appeal. He volunteered many years for the CNIB and Victorian Order of Nurses. He was predeceased by his wife, Velma Battye Wheaton; his parents and two sisters, Hepsy Milner and Doris MacAllister. He is survived by his daughter, Beverley Ann and her husband, Doug Johnston of Burdenell, P.E.I.; grandchildren, Catherine (Graeme), William and Alexander, and two great grand-sons, Liam and Marshall Stewart. Also survived by a sister, Alice (Robert) Brodie. Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of Life on Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at Trinity St. Stephen United Church, Amherst, NS at 2 pm.
