Phil George EMMS

Funeral services for former Hearst resident Phil George Emms, 59, of North Bay were held April 25, 2002 in North Bay. He died suddenly, April 20, at North Bay General Hospital-Scollard Site from a massive coronary. Born Feb. 7, 1943 in Kirkland Lake, he came to the Hearst area in the late 1970s. After working for Ontario Northland Telecommunications, he then joined TransCanada PipeLines for more than 30 years. A former district manager at the Mattice station, he retired in 1999 as the North Bay regional operations manager. He continued doing consulting contracts. Described as a loving and caring individual, he was active with the Hearst Curling and Golf Clubs, the Salvation Army in Kapuskasing, and for the past nine years the North Bay Choral Society. In Hearst, he regularly dropped in at Viljo’s Electronics and Furniture store. Predeceased by his parents Lillian (nee Beswitherick) and Alec Emms, and a grandson Jonathan Osborn, he leaves his wife Peggy (nee Menzies) Emms and sons Gregory and Tyler Emms, all of North Bay, and daughters Kimberly (Kenneth) Osborn of Hamilton and Karrie Emms of Caledonia. Also surviving are his sisters Alice Emms of Kirkland Lake and Darlene (Frank) McMichael of Toronto, granddaughters Cassandra, Jesslynn and Devine, and grandsons Nicholas, Dallas and Colton, as well as a niece, nephew and cousin. Salvation Army Officer Audra Courtney officiated the morning service at Hillside Funeral Services in North Bay. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
