Funeral services for École secondaire Hearst High Grade 11 student Marc-André 'Marco' Girard of Ryland, west of town, were held Feb. 11, 2002. He died at his home, Feb. 7. Born Nov. 14, 1985 in Hearst, he worked part-time and summers at NorBuilding Enterprises. An aggressive goalie for local minor and ESH Nordik soccer teams, he played for the school Nordik volleyball and hockey teams, earned his brown belt in Wado-Kai karate, and was a member of the high-school improvisation team. Known to friends and classmates as "Marco", he was described as respectful, kind, likable, helpful to others, energetic and mischievous. He enjoyed "chatting" on the internet, playing electric bass, hunting, fishing and war games. He was bass player for the rock group Music Inc. which played their song "No Tomorrow" as a tribute during the service. Predeceased by paternal grandparents Marguerite and Evague Girard, he leaves his parents Sylvie Savoie and Donald Girard, both of Hearst, grandparents Olivette and Raoul Savoie, and his sister Marie-Pier Girard of Hearst, as well as many aunts and uncles. Rev. Rémi Lessard officiated the morning service at the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral. Interment will be at the Monseigneur Grenier Cemetery.
