Funeral services for longtime Constance Lake First Nation resident Jimmy George Stephens Sr, 50, of 18 Shan-Way-Shoo St. were held Feb. 4, 2002 at the community. He died, Jan. 30, at Notre-Dame Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born Sept. 20, 1951 at Pagwa River, he came to Constance Lake in 1952. Since 1969, he had been employed at Lecours Lumber Co. in Calstock as a carry-lift (loader) operator at the sawmill. An active community volunteer with youth and minor hockey novice and peewee teams, he was a former Band councillor and volunteer firefighter. Described as a devoted, caring family person and grandfather, understanding towards people and a dedicated worker, he had a strong faith in the Great Spirit and in his heritage and traditions. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, walking, singing and playing guitar, old-timers hockey. Predeceased by his mother Bella Stephens in 1988 and father Alec Stephens in 1995, and a sister Jemima Wesley in 1975, he leaves: his wife Donna (nee Louttit) Stephens of Constance Lake; sons Ronald Corston (companion Hannah-Mae) of Moose Factory, and Jimmy Jr and Jeffrey Stephens; and daughters Lorraine (Conrad Wesley) Stephens and Harmony Stephens, all of Constance Lake. Also surviving are his sisters Madeline Bird and Christine Stephens, both of Constance Lake, Elizabeth (Rocky) Audet of Caramat, Gloria (Jean-Pierre) Champagne and Susan Sandau, all of Hearst, a brother Stanley (Pauline) Stephens of Constance Lake, and grandsons Shane and Gavin Wesley of Constance Lake. Rev. Douglas Richardson of Hearst officiated the service at St. Stephen's Anglican Church. Interment followed at the Constance Lake burial ground.
