A memorial service will be held at St. Gertrude Church in Smooth Rock Falls on March 1 for former resident Irenee O'Rourke. Mr. O'Rourke , died at The Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora, on Jan. 28, 2002. He was 78 years old. Born on Jan. 29, 1924, in Smooth Rock Falls, he left as a boy of eight, but returned as an adult when he met and married Hélène Bisson and joined Abitibi, first in the Woodlands division and later in the laboratory until his retirement. He was an avid, self-taught violin player and teacher. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. He was predeceased by his wife, his parents Georges O'Rourke, and mother Laina Gagné of Smooth Rock Falls, brothers Albert, Daniel, Stanley and George. He is survived by his daughter Evelyn Moore, son-in-law Owen, step-granddaughter Tracy (Eric) Cave, and grandsons David and Colin all of Kenora; and great grandchildren Michael, Darren and Alison of Cochrane.
