Bessie L. Steeves HAMPTON, NB - At her residence on September 12, 2002 Bessie Louise (McLeod) Steeves of Centennial House Special Care Home, Hampton, NB. Formerly of Steeves Settlement, NB, wife of the late Dawson Enoch Steeves. Born in Dobson's Corner (Salisbury) NB on July 23, 1918 the daughter of the late William Wallace McLeod and Rilla Belle (Rogers) McLeod. Bessie was a very active member of the Steeves Settlement United Baptist Church for over 60 years. She held various offices during her lifetime that included organist, Sunday school superintendent and teacher, church clerk and also organized Daily Vacation Bible School for several years. She was a life member of the United Baptist Missionary Union and past director of Steeves Settlement Cemetery Inc. She enjoyed poetry, painting, knitting and quilting. One of her poems has been published. She is survived by her daughter Joan MacKinley and son Wilfred (Lola) Steeves; grandchildren, Kevin Thorn (Carolyn), Janice Bell (Donald), Elaine Steeves (Brian), Gwen Chase (Jeff); great grandchildren, Nathan, Victoria, David Thorne, Jason Bell (Julie), Benjamin, Michael, Jonathan Steeves, Katelynn, Curtis Chase; great-great grandson Jake Bell; step-brother, Bob Crosthwaite (Eleanor); sisters-in-law Dody and Lila McLeod. Bessie was predeceased by her parents, husband, brothers, Amasa and Louis McLeod, Thomas Crosthwaite; sisters Daisy Steeves and Ruth Lounsbury; step brothers, Sam and Clifton Crosthwaite; step sister, Marjorie Crosthwaite. Resting at Salisbury Funeral Home 3350 Route 106, Salisbury (506 -372 4800), with visiting on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held at Steeves Settlement United Baptist Church, on Monday, September 16, 2002 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow in Steeves Settlement United Baptist Church Cemetery.
