Maureen Teresa McCarthy Maureen Teresa McCarthy, age 38, of Hillcrest Drive, Moncton, passed away, Tuesday, October 8, 2002. When Maureen was diagnosed with cancer in late August, she told her family and friends that she was going to beat the disease. Even when, with each test and treatment, the news got worse, Maureen kept fighting - and laughing. She laughed about her son Ryan asking about her appointment with the "ear, foot and mouth doctor." She joked about her "attractive black eye" and "trendy radiology tattoos." Even when she was tired and frustrated, she joked that she must be getting better if she were well enough to complain. Maureen had a lot to fight for. At just 38, she and her much-loved husband Paul Gunn were immersed in the pleasures and welcome challenges of raising their son Ryan, 7, and daughter Kyleigh, 4. They enjoyed the support and love of their extended families, and they had earned the admiration and friendship of a wide circle of colleagues and friends. Sadly, Maureen did not win her fight with the rare cancer that stole her life just weeks after its discovery. Those of us who loved Maureen know that while she did not want to leave us, she has found comfort and relief in joining her beloved mother Marge, who passed away in 1997. Maureen's laughter still rings in our hearts and her spirit will keep us strong during this time of deep sorrow. We know that she is watching over us, and we will do our best to make her laugh and make her proud. Maureen Teresa McCarthy is survived, celebrated and deeply mourned by her husband Paul Gunn;her son Ryan; her daughter Kyleigh; by her father Gerry McCarthy and his wife Phyllis McTiernan of Moncton; sisters, Colleen McCarthy-Durand (Paul) of Edmonton, Patty McCarthy of Toronto, Mary Mungall (Andi) of Riverview, Susan McCarthy (Ed Muise) of Dieppe; brothers, Danny McCarthy (Cindy) of Ottawa, David McCarthy (Steacy Kavaner) of Kingston; by nieces Katie, Chloe, Maureen and Hannah and nephews Daniel, Conor, Dylan and Liam; by Paul's mother Mary Gunn; by the families of Paul's brother Peter and sisters Mary Jane, Tisha, Laura and Cathy; and by her friends. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cadman's Funeral Home, 114 Alma Street, Moncton, (857-1110) with visiting hours on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm, Friday 2-4 and 7-9pm. The Mass will be celebrated from St. Bernard's Catholic Church on Saturday, October 12, 2002 at 9 am, Father Bohan officiating. Interment will be held in Elmwood Cemetery.
