Katherine Grace Mowbray TORONTO, ON - On November 1, 2002, Katherine Grace Mowbray (Fownes), 79, passed away after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was born in Moncton and graduated from Acadia University in 1944. Kay is survived by George, her husband of 53 years; beloved children John, David, Melanie and Lisa; grandchildren, Jennifer, Andrew, Cameron, Stephanie and Kristen; her brother, Donald Fownes (Mary) of Shediac Bridge, NB; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brother J. David Fownes. A skilled and sensitive organizer, she had two successful social-service careers. The first was 13 years as coordinator of volunteers for the North Toronto YMCA (having earlier been YW program director in Ottawa). The second was 13 years as a program organizer at Toronto's Belmont House. Member of Eglinton St. George's United Church for 39 years and longtime member of UCW Unit 20. More recently a volunteer and member of the council of the Second Mile Club of North Toronto. She will be fondly missed by her many friends who supported her so warmly in her illness. Memorial service at 11 a.m. on November 8 at Trull Funeral Chapel, 2704 Yonge Street, Toronto. Friends may visit 6 to 9pm on November 7. Cremation with later interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Donations would be appreciated to Sunnybrook Foundation, CNS Site Group, in support of research in neuro-oncology.
