Joseph Avard MarvenII Joseph Avard Marven II 87, of Riverview died peacefully on Friday, November 8 at The Moncton City Hospital. Born on September 10, 1915, he was the son of the late Joseph Avard Marven I (founder of Marven's Biscuits) and the late Annie Emily Murray. He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1933, passed his senior matriculations from Saint John High School in 1934. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mount Allison University in 1937 and a Commerce Degree from Dalhousie University in 1938 (where he was also a member of phi delta theta fraternity). In 1940 he married Mona Grace Fraser of Halifax. He went on to obtain his CA designation and started his accounting career at Lee and Martin in Halifax. In 1946 he became a partner and returned to Moncton to head up their New Brunswick office. In 1957 he started his own accounting firm and remained the senior partner until his retirement in 1980. He served as auditor for the City of Moncton for more than 40 years. He was a long serving member of the Moncton Rotary Club receiving the Paul Harris Fellowship. He was a life long member of Central United Church, serving on the Board of Trustees for many years. He was also one of the most active fundraisers for the Moncton Crisis Pregnancy Center. He was a former member of The Moncton district council of Boy Scouts of Canada. In November 1996, Governor General Romeo LeBlanc presented him with the Silver Wolf, Scouts Canada's highest award bestowed upon an adult volunteer. He was predeceased by his wife Mona, December 1, 1989; his son Peter, December 18, 1999; and infant granddaughter, Abby Jean, July 13, 1977; one brother Murray, February 18, 1995. He is survived by daughter-in-law, Norma of Shediac; granddaughters, Wendy Marven (Dan Webb) of Saint John, Amy Stevens of Riverview, Mary Marven of London, Ontario; grandson, Matthew Marven of Moncton; two great grandchildren, Cody and Kathleen Stevens of Riveview; as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Cadman's Funeral Home, 114 Alma Street, Moncton, Monday, November 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, with the funeral service being held at Central United Church, 150 Queen Street, Moncton at 11am on Tuesday, November 12, Rev. Eldon Hay officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the memorial of the donor's choice is requested by the family. www.cadmansfh.com
