J. Roger Pichette The death of J. Roger Pichette of Moncton occurred on November 21, 2002 at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital in Moncton after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 14, 1921 in Chandler, Quebec, the son of the late Eugene Pichette and the late MarieAnge Rousseau. Roger will be sadly missed and remembered by his wife of 59 years, Florence Olscamp; one son, Conrad (Gervaise Ouellet) Moncton; three daughters, Murielle (Bryan Neville) Moncton, Suzanne (Roland Cormier) Fredericton, Louise (Pierre Rioux) Shippagan; seven grandchildren, Christine, Robert, Marie-Andrée, Marie-Claude, Melodie, Mathieu and Isabelle; one great grandson, Jordan; one brother, Numa (Simonne); two sisters, Raymonde (the late Lucien Fortin) and Huguette (the late Yvanhoe Allard) all of Quebec City; one sister-inlaw, Jacqueline (Bennie) Audet; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by three brothers, Jean-Paul (Helen), Raymond (Claudette), both from Montreal and Gaston (Simonne) of Moncton, N.B. He was a Veteran of the Second World War and earned the Distinguished Flying Medal. He was also awarded La Croix Combattant de l'Europe. He was elected to the N.B. Legislative Assembly and represented Restigouche County from 1952 to 1960. In 1952, at 31 years of age, he was named Minister of Industry and Commerce. He worked for many years as a Real Estate and Insurance Agent in Campbellton, N.B. He then moved to Fredericton working on different assignments for the Provincial Government. In 1987, he was appointed a member of the Veterans' Appeal Board in Charlottetown PEI. He retired in 1990 and moved to Moncton. He received an Honorary Doctorate's Degree in Commercial Science from the Université St. Joseph, N.B. He was a Member-At-Large of the Air Force Association of Canada. He was a member of the Air Force Veterans Club of Moncton Limited and the Royal Canadian Legion of the Moncton Branch No. 6 and the Campbellton Branch No. 19. He volunteered on a number of organizations including: Member of the Board of the Hotel-Dieu St.-Joseph Hospital in Campbellton for 24 years, seven of which as Board Chair; Past President of the Campbellton Richelieu Club and Past President of the Campbellton Chamber of Commerce. Roger was an avid bridge player and also enjoyed a game of golf and salmon fishing. The funeral will be held Saturday, November 30, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Snows Church, Campbellton. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements in care of Maher's Funeral Home Campbellton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
