DOUGLAS: Karen June 1947 - 2002 Karen June succumbed to her battle with cancer, December 3, 2002. Karen was born December 7, 1947, Regina, SK. She was the first daughter of Robert (Bob) and Emily (Millie) Douglas. Karen received her teaching certificate from Regina Teachers College. Her first teaching position was at Indian Head High School, Indian Head, SK followed by Thom Collegiate High School in Regina. Karen married her grade 12 graduating escort, Douglas W. Griffith in Regina, 1971. Karen and Doug made their first home in Kamloops, B.C., where they both taught high school. In 1974 their first and only child was born, Tyler Douglas. In 1976, the young Griffith family moved to Drumheller, AB, where Doug taught and counselled in the high school and Karen managed the Drumheller Chamber of Commerce for two years. For the next several years, Karen successfully operated a business service. She returned to teaching once again, and for the next ten years, Karen coordinated and taught for Olds College. As well as being an accomplished pianist, Karen s interests in gardening and renovating began with Doug and continued with her second husband Reginald E. Gouldie. Karen and Reg purchased and developed a four room school house in the ghost town of Rowley, AB. In 1992 Karen and son Tyler moved to Red Deer, AB to complete Tyler s education. In the years to follow, Karen s experiences and talents led her to work with a newspaper; a hiring assessment center; and even a flower shop. Over the past 18 years Karen was able to spend some of the winter months in Mesa, AZ where she established some wonderful friendships. She is predeceased by her first husband, Doug - July, 1983; her father, Bob - September, 1990; and her second husband, Reg - September, 1998. Karen leaves behind with saddened hearts, her mother Millie Douglas of Dinsmore, SK; her son, Tyler Gouldie (Jennifer) of Red Deer, AB; her twin granddaughters, Delanie and Morgan; her sister, Donna Hawrylak (Mark) of Candle Lake, SK; several dear aunts, uncles and cousins; her nieces and nephews: Paul, Bree, Lisa, Nicole, and Sterling, whom she enjoyed watching grow up; also many Canadian and American friends. In lieu of flowers, friends and relatives, if they so wish, may donate to the Canadian Diabetic Assoc. The family would like to thank Dr. Veisse and nursing staff at High River Hospital for their kindness. Arrangements for cremation have been carried out by Snodgrass Funeral Home, High River, AB. Personal wishes to have no service, internment at Dinsmore cemetery, Dinsmore, SK.
