ZACERKOWNY, Wolodymyr (Walter) In loving memory of Wolodymyr (Walter) Zacerkowny, 80 years, Tuesday afternoon, July 23rd, 2002 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian Site. He was born February 24th, 1922 in Yaseniw, Ukraine, coming to Canada in 1948 from Europe where he worked as a professional actor. After he settled in Sudbury, he became a well respected leader in the local Ukrainian community. Walter passed on his passion for his art and his love of Ukrainian culture by directing and producing numerous plays at the Ukrainian National Federation. He especially inspired the youth to take pride and celebrate their Ukrainian heritage. He took great joy in bringing happiness to children by portraying "Swiaty Mykolay" (St. Nicholas) at Christmas time. An industrious man, he worked at Palm Dairy and Co-Op Dairies for 35 years where he had a distinguished career as a cheese maker and quality control manager. He was a member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church; president of the Ukrainian War Veteran’s of Sudbury; secretary of the Ukrainian National Association (Sudbury Branch) for 46 years; past president of the Sudbury Ukrainian Credit Union; and past president of the Ukrainian Co-Op. He enjoyed spending time in his flower and vegetable garden. The light of Walter’s life and legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of his loving family and many friends. Devoted husband for 50 years to Anne (Holunga) Zacerkowny of Sudbury. Beloved father of Steve (wife Lydia) of Sudbury, Orest (wife Shelley) and Lesia (husband Conrad Truppe) both of Windsor.
