KEAST, John D. Sr. The family announces the death of its much loved and respected husband, father and grandfather on August 7th, 2002 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian Site. Born in Creighton Mine, John was the beloved husband of Peggy Ethier, loving father of John David Jr. (wife Leslie Mitchell) of Sudbury, Ann Crane (husband Alex) of Leamington, James of Burlington, predeceased by Michael in March 2002. He was predeceased by his parents Gertrude and Harold Keast, brothers Harold Keast Jr. and Clarence Keast. John is survived by his sister Monica Leuschen and brother George Keast. He is the loving grandfather of Jason, Justin, Andrew, Jillian, Jeffrey, Rebecca, Tabitha and great grandfather of Jared. John was a strong believer that an individual had to leave this world a better place. During his lifetime he dedicated his efforts to country, community and family. During World War II he was a flight Lieutenant with the Royal Canadian Air Force. After attending Queen’s University, he was employed by Inco Metals as a mining engineer, eventually becoming Inco’s Chief Efficiency and Contract Engineer. He was a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario. In his early years he was very involved in the Credit Union movement in Sudbury. At this time he was active in the funding project for Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. John was a trustee for the Roman Catholic Separate School Board for 22 years, serving as both vice chairman and chairman, for several years. He was very involved with the Ontario Government to extend full funding beyond grade 10 for Catholic High Schools. After retiring from Inco, John was a business consultant with the Federal Business Development Bank. John’s fundamental value was personal integrity and responsibility. He was blessed with many friends and enjoyed the variety and differences in others. Please join John’s family in a Celebration of his life at a Memorial Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, Walford Rd., Sudbury, August 10th, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow. Donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME.
