SWANTON, BETTY BEATRICE - The death of Betty Beatrice (Reid) Swanton, wife of John Swanton of Fredericton, occurred on January 3, 2002 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton. She was born in Upham, NB on January 29, 1921, the daughter of the late Theodore and Bessie (Kirkpatrick) Reid. Betty was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother; her greatest joy was her family. She was a committed supporter of Christ Church Cathedral and took and active part in the friendship Guild and in the Anglican Church Women. Betty was a past Regent and lifetime member of the Bliss Carmen Chapter of the IODE and served as chairman of the Central Commitee. She particularly enjoyed her friendship with her bridge clubs and her swim group. She is survived by her husband of 58 years; one son, C.T. (Ted) Swanton and his wife Carolyn of Calgary, Alberta and grandchildren Jennifer, Christopher, Sean and Mandy; one daughter, Peggy and husband Bill Goss of Fredericton and grandsons Anthony, Nicholas, Alexander and Matthew. She is also survived by one brother John T. Reid of Saint John, and his wife Frances and several nieces and nephews. Betty will be missed by a wide circle of people whose lives she enriched by her caring friendship. Resting at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home with visitation on Saturday, from 7-9 and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Service will take place at Christ Church Cathedral on Monday, January 7 at 2:00 PM with Dean Keith officiating, assisted by Bishop William Hockin, Arch Bishop Harold Nutter and The Rev. Elaine Lucas. Interment will take place at a later date.
