The Honourable, Senate of Canada, Retired At his home in Ottawa on Wednesday, January 2, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer, age 82 years. Beloved husband for 52 years of Isabel (nee Stewart). He is also survived by his children Heather Jean Ritchie of Brampton; Flora Mary Macquarrie and Iain Heath Macquarrie of Toronto; also seven grandchildren James Heath Ritchie, Emily Jean Ritchie, Andrew Alexander Ritchie, Nicholas Colin Ritchie, Pamela Flora Ritchie, Isabel Heather Macquarrie and William Heath Macquarrie. He was born September 18, 1919 in Victoria, PEI, the son of Wilfred Macquarrie and Mary Macquarrie (nee Mallard). He was educated at Prince of Wales College, University of Manitoba and University of New Brunswick. He proudly represented the people of PEI in the House of Commons and Senate for over 35 years. He also published several books, including his memoirs Red Tory Blues, and numerous articles. Whether in print, at the lectern or in person, he was a man of charm and wit. Memorial Services will be announced later. Donations to the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) or a charity of your choice. The family is grateful for the kind care provided by the VON staff, the Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) and palliative Drs. Hurdon and Coulombe. The Ottawa Citizen, 04-01-2002
