1920 - 2002 Veteran WWII In the Ottawa General Hospital, on January 5, 2002. Loving husband of Shirley Stegmayer (McCarthy, nee O'Neil), predeceased by his loving first wife Dorothy (nee Norris) and survived by his only brother Gerard of Ottawa. Sadly missed by daughters Cheryl Brewster (Dave) of Bathurst, NB, Wendy Ferris (Bob) of Ottawa, Madeleine Stegmayer of Dartmouth, Debbie London (Don) and Maureen McCarthy of Saint John, NB, and sons Shawn McCarthy of Ottawa and Paul McCarthy of South Mountain. Henry was a Grampie deeply loved by his grandchildren and great-grandchild and is fondly remembered by several nephews, nieces, brothers and sisters-in-law. Born in Germany on March 2, 1920, Henry immigrated with his parents and brother to Canada in 1929. He proudly served Canada in the army during the Second World War. After the war, Henry obtained a Bachelor of Social Work degree from McGill University and worked in related positions in Montreal, Saint John and Ottawa. His work life included years with Montreal's Department of Parks and Playgrounds, the United Way of Saint John, the National Office for the United Way in Ottawa, as well as periods as the Director of the Glebe Centre and the Director of the Bronson Home in Ottawa. Henry often spoke with well deserved pride about his many accomplishments. In particular, he was especially pleased to have served on building compaigns for three churches in Montreal and Saint John and to have spent twelve years on the Board of Directors for St. Patrick's Home in Ottawa. Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road (between Bayshore and Baseline Rd.) on Tuesday January 8, and on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until Memorial Service in the Chapel.
