Former Councillor of West Carleton, 1990-99 Former teacher at Highland Park and McArthur High Schools Dan, at the age of 63, lost his battle with cancer on January 13, 2002. Beloved son of the late Gregor and Irene MacMillan, formerly of Westboro. Dearest father of Kathy and Heather (David Walker), who were with him when he died. He will be sadly missed by his twin sister Jane MacMillan and his cousin Kay Denison, who has been his rock these past 18 months. He will live forever in the hearts of his dear grandson, Jordan Arthur Walker, and expected baby Walker. Fondly remembered uncle of Sandi MacPherson and Mark Klupfel. He leaves behind him a rich legacy of family and friends. Dan grew up in Westboro, attended Ashbury College and graduated with a Masters in Education from Carleton University. He started his 35-year teaching career in Northern Ontario. After a brief time in Toronto, he returned to Constance Bay, a place that he had spent many happy summers growing up at the family cottage. He made the original hunting lodge that his father had built into his permanent home. He taught at both Highland Park High School and McArthur High School until his retirement in 1997. Dan was also widely known for his wit and humour and his passion for golf. He wanted to give something back to his community and was Councillor for West Carleton for 3 consecutive terms from 1991-99. Friends may call at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road (at Roosevelt Avenue) on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held in the chapel on Friday at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society be made.
