76, Halifax, passed away January 23, 2002, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Massachusetts, he was a son of the late William and Laura (Donnelly) Gallant. He spent most of his adult life in Canada except for his service during the Second World War in the United States Navy. He studied at St. F.X. University in Antigonish, Queens University in Kingston, Ont. and Chapel Hill in South Carolina, U.S.A. He taught at St. F.X.; Loyola University, Montreal and retired after 25 years at University of Ottawa in 1986. He is survived by brothers, Elmer (Carol), Dartmouth; Roy (Joan), Dartmouth; Rubin (Irene), Prince Edward Island; sisters, Mary Ellen "Nellie" Collins, Duxbury, Mass.; Muriel (Pete) George, Dartmouth; Jean (Conrad) Baldwin, Gays River; sister-in-law, Mary Gallant, Glace Bay; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Edward; infant sister, Marjorie; stepmother, M. Geraldine Gallant; nephew, Michael. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. Memorial mass held in St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Bayers Road, Halifax, N.S.
