(Downie) July 9, 1912 - January 24, 2002. After a lengthy illness, Emily McLaughlin passed away at the Pinecrest Home for the Aged, Kenora, Ontario. She is survived by her husband, John McLaughlin, her daughters Phyllis Downie of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Jean (Albert) Rolfe of Montreal, Quebec and her sons, John Jr. and Keith McLaughlin of Kenora, as well as, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Emily was predeceased by her first husband, James Downie. Emily was born in Wawanesa, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg with the family at an early age. She attended numerous schools in Winnipeg along with Business College. She worked for the Department of Transportation and retired in 1977 after a long career. During her working career and long after, Emily travelled the world extensively making many friends. She visited every continent and most of her travels were accomplished on foot. Of her many trips, Emily particularly enjoyed travel in China. After Emily's retirement, she moved to Kenora and resided at Benidickson Court with her husband, John. The family would like to thank Emily's dedicated physicians and the extraordinary staff at Pinecrest Home for the Aged. Special thanks to the Alzheimer's Society of Kenora for their support. Donations can be made to your local branch. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2002 at the Pinecrest Auditorium with Rev. Robert Wittmeier officiating.
